Flyfishing in the Arctic

Click on THIS LINK if you want to read this text in Swedish.

Join us for a 7 days long flyfishing adventure where you will experience the wonderful nature around the mountains next to Kiruna and the fantastic fishing opportunities there.

We will set camp just a few meters away from a tributary to one of the main rivers in Kiruna. In this area the midnight sun makes it possible for us to go enjoy fishing 24 hours a day. During our stay we will visit crystal clear lakes where the hatchings are like a dream for a flyfisher.

This is a trip for those that want to experience wonderful char-, trout-, graylingfishing in a setting that will leave you speachless. Our guide will help you to get days and nights that will stay in your memory for many years. Sometimes we walk short distances and sometimes long distances to get to the best streams and lakes. In the evening we will sit down, make a camp fire and talk about today’s adventures and the nature around us.

We come here every year because of the freedom and peace we find here – feel free to join us!

Departure

We will gather at the Kiruna bus station to go together to the helicopter base. There will be information meeting at that base and a short presentation of your guide, Andreas, and his many years of experience of flyfishing in the arctic part of Sweden. It is possible to arrange pick-up of participants from the airport or train station in Kiruna.

Registration is in this form or to flugfiske (at) karlmark . se

Program

In Kiruna we will go through the equipment and get what is missing before the helicopter taks us to what will be our campsite for the next few days. At the campsite your guide will tell you about the lakes, streams and fishes in the area. Exactly where and how far we will go each day is determined by the weather and our motivation. It is not necessary to fish every day. Finally the helicopter will come back and pick us up. We travel home many pleasant memories richer.

At the camp we live in tents each of us has brought. We raise them in what will be our Camp Kiruna 2020. Each participant brings their own food and cook it. In the evening we gather around dinner or a camp fire to talk about the day and the next.

Dates

6 – 12 july 2020

Generally about the fishing

We will be fishing for grayling and trout in streams! Dry flies and streamers are often our best choice for big fish during the night. Larger day- and night flies have given us a good yield on previous trips.

The Grayling likes many flies but our favorites are the green-and black pupae in different sizes and also imitations of the night-flies. Red and white wet-flies have been good for bigger fishes. Nymph-fishing for Grayling has sometimes been exceptionally good, especially during the evenings.

Arctic char has been difficult to trick in the lakes, but are most easily caught early in the morning with flies size 16 – 20. Klinkhammers, elkhaircaddies and dark super pupae have given good results. At times the fishes have reacted very strongly to light streamers but smaller flies are usually the best.

What we use on which day will be discussed from day to day in the camp.

Weather

Weather changes quickly in the arctic. It can be both cold and warm, so prepare for both. Dressing is layers is an easy way to achieve that. Rain gear is essential.
